What is Microneedling? (otherwise know as CIT or Collagen Induction Therapy)? Many of our clients come to us with questions about micro needling. What is it? What can it do for my skin? Does it hurt?

At Simply Renew, we utilize the Skin Pen® microneedling device to create tiny channels in the skin to allow new collagen and elastin formation. Microneedling creates thousands of micro-injuries in the skin to trigger the body’s natural wound healing process. The Skin Pen® is a great way to address certain skin issues at the cellular level resulting in skin remodeling, including the formation of collagen and elastin, the two proteins predominantly responsible for the structure of the skin.

There are three phases to the wound-repair process:

  • Phase I: Inflammation. Piercing the skin triggers your immune system to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow and begin to create new tissue.
  • Phase II: Proliferation. The wound is rebuilt with new granulation cells, which are part of the extracellular matrix. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.
  • Phase III: Remodeling. The wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels.

This process helps improve skin tone, lighten hyper-pigmentation and sun spots, reduces the appearance of acne scarring and minimizes the appearance of pores. The new skin is more even in tone and texture-by encouraging the skin to make new tissue, there may be more collagen to help make the skin firmer as well.

After an initial consultation on your skincare goals, review of medical history and skin care assessment and a decision is made to proceed with microneedling.

What comes next?  Your face is numbed with special numbing agent(s), after 20 minutes the micro needling process begins to minimalize any discomfort. Clients say the numbing cream works wonders and they feel only a mild contact sensation from the pen to the skin. The Skin Pen® is applied to small areas of the face along with a Skin Pen “glide” that ensures proper contact with skin and allows the process to be smooth across the treated area. This process is repeated until all areas of the face are treated usually about 45-60 minutes.

What to expect after treatment? There may be some slight swelling and redness post procedure; it is recommended not to apply makeup to the skin for 24 hours but a light application of sunscreen is encouraged if you are spending any time outdoors – avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight for a few days post procedure. Avoid anti-inflammatories but you can take Tylenol if there is any discomfort.

We recommend a series of 3 treatments 30 days apart for optimal results. The results are fabulous! Clients love the results and can’t wait for their next treatment.

*This treatment can be combined with PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) – otherwise known as the “Vampire Facelift” for the ultimate non-surgical facial rejuvenation*
